As you all know, things are going to continue to be uncertain and at times unsettling as we all grapple with this virus. The disruption that COVID-19 has brought to our lives and to the running community is like nothing I have ever seen. Each day more running events and activities are postponed or cancelled. These decisions are painful for all involved. Given my own uncertainty over the Olympics and ‘closed door trials’ I have a close view to the pain that is felt when these tough decisions are made, but often for the best to ensure the safety of everyone.
What I would like to communicate to you all is to stay positive and patient! Surround yourselves with those you care about and those who have positive outlooks. Follow the news selectively and I’d personally stay away from the rumours and the bad information that seems to be flowing rapidly, especially on social media although I’ve also seen some amazing acts of kindness and community spirit.
At some point, this virus will settle down and the world will get back to normal – but in the meantime remember that the sport and the activity of running is the best therapy there is. Providing you’re showing no symptoms and happy to do so then training as normal at your discretion would be my best advice.
The training you have accumulated over the winter season will not go to waste. So please stay positive and look forward to putting in a consistent block of training to set you up well for future challenges.
If you have any niggles or looking to take a short recovery at the end of the season now would be the perfect time.
Be healthy and smart and keep up the great work –
Thanks
Jonny
